Mollie Danforth

Ms. Danforth assumed the position of Executive Director of the ASO on April 3, 2006 and served in that capacity through June 2007. Prior to that time she had served as a board member on the ASO Board of Trustees. She was the President of the Symphony Orchestra League (SOLA) from 2000 to 2002. Ms. Danforth chaired a number of successful fundraisers for SOLA, including Supper for the Symphony and as Auction Chairman for the Annual Symphony Ball. She also served on the Alexandria City Public School Board from 1994 to June 2006; she was elected Chairman of the school board in July 2005. Ms. Danforth graduated from law school at the University of Virginia in 1975. Her undergraduate degree in French was from Randolph Macon Woman’s College. She also has a Master in Education from Marymount University.

Adrien C. Finlay

Adrien joined the ASO in December 2006 as its General Manager, having previously served as Orchestra Manager at American University and Music Administrator of Glimmerglass Opera and also having held positions with The Newport Music Festival and Portland Chamber Music Festival (Maine). He was appointed Executive Director of the ASO during the 2007-2008 Season. An amateur pianist, he studied music and French as an undergraduate at Harvard University. Such a course of study allowed for extended periods of time studying and working abroad in France. Originally from Rhode Island, Adrien came to the Washington, DC, area in the fall of 2005 to enter the MA in Arts Management program at American University, which he completed in August 2007. He is an opera- and food-lover.
Marketing & Operations Manager
Karyn Garvin

Karyn Garvin was born in Columbus, OH where she grew up studying Irish dance, theater and music. She studied flute at Otterbein College in Westerville, OH, earning a degree in music and business. Previously held positions include Press Assistant for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; Operations and Special Projects Coordinator for the National Symphony Orchestra; Acting Assistant Personnel Manager for the National Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestra Management Apprentice/Assistant Personnel Manager for Spoleto Festival USA. She currently works as Marketing and Operations Manager for the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra in Alexandria, VA while pursuing a master's degree in Arts Management from American University in Washington, DC where she also holds a graduate assistantship as manager of the university's orchestra.
Box Office Manager
Ryan Jordan

Recently relocated to the Washington D.C area, Ryan has worked in a range of music administrative positions, including three years as stage and equipment manager for the Kent State University band department where he oversaw technical and logistical needs of a several classical and jazz ensembles. In August 2008 Ryan completed is M.M in music composition from Bowling Green State University and has worked as a transcriber and copyist for a variety of musical acts including Egyptian composer Halim El Dabh on his Brass Quintet Beginnings and three arrangements for saxophone and studio orchestra performed by jazz saxophonist Dick Oatts. He currently performs as a freelance musician in a variety of groups encompassing jazz, free improvisation and solo electronics.
Personnel Manager

Ms. Kelly, who also plays cello with the ASO, is in charge of hiring the musicians for the ASO concerts. She works closely with Music Director Kluge and the Musicians’ Union to find the best musicians in the area for the ASO concerts. She received her musical training at the University of California at Santa Barbara, and Fontainbleau, France, encouraged by her musician/conductor father, James Swift. She has been part of the Washington, DC area musical scene since 1975 as a player, contractor, librarian, and teacher. Current responsibilities involving the first three roles find her working at Wolf Trap, Kennedy Center Opera House, Concert Artists of Baltimore, Post-Classical Ensemble and Opera Camerata in addition to the ASO. She teaches cello at the Levine School of Music, Episcopal High School and at her McLean home.
Stage Manager
Craig B. Teer

Craig has served as a stage manager for several Washington & Baltimore orchestras. He has been with the Alexandria Symphony since 1997. Craig has previously served as an Instrumental music teacher for students aged Kindergarten through college. In addition to playing stage manger he is freelance percussionist and is the director of Music Director for Kensington (MD) Baptist Church.
